fine art horse pet portraits by commission
Welcome to our horse portraits studio and materials page. We work in our purpose built garden studio which is heated all year round and keeps us lovely and cosy in the winter months. The photo below was taken in mid summer, our garden is heavenly in the summer! On a lovely day you can leave the windows and door open and listen to general chattering of the birds and the pattering of squirrels feet running over the roof. We have feeders outside the studio so we can watch nuthatches, woodpeckers and general garden birds. We even have a tree creeper visit from time to time.
The photo below shows me, Melanie, taking a photo of a horse painting on the mini easel ready to pack and send. The plan chest is a great place to photogrpah and pack portraits. We have professional photography lighting above on the beams which create ideal lighting for take photos.
We are accompanied in our studio by our lovely little dog called Lily. She is a Tibetan Terrier and a bundle of fun and mischief. The photo below shows our office section of our studio where we keep supplies. lily has a bed there, she also has her own chair, she sleeps on the studio sofa, my chair and Nicholas' chair too! Everything in a Tibetan Terrier world belongs to them!
The photo below is looking towards my drawing desk. I use a macbook pro laptop connected to a monitor so that I can take my laptop back up to the cottage to continue working by the fire if required. Our lighting in our studio is very important and we both have LED panels to work by. They are dimable and have diffusers on so that we can alter the brightness if required. They are perfect for working on long dark winter evenings. They are postioned just above my drawing desk or Nicholas' painting easel.
Nicholas paints all of his portraits using traditional oil paints and a range of paintbrushes which you can see from the photo below. We love working with our favorite brands of oil paints and graphite pencils and try to source the best quality we can find. We also regularly source new and exciting materials to work with too.
Nicholas uses a wooden easel to mix his colours and you can see a photo of them below. The colour consistencies are beautiful buttery and perfect to paint with.
Our canvases are all linen canvases, made by either Windsor & Newton or hand made by a local company. This means we can always create a painting to any size you require, however big or small.
We hope that our studio and materials page has been interesting. If you would like us to paint or draw your horse, why not get in touch with us today and email us your photos, we would love to see them!
testimonials.....Hi Melanie and Nicholas,
The portrait arrived safely and it is just so beautiful. You really captured Jez perfectly. Again, thank you so much for doing this. It is really going to make my mum's Christmas.
Thank you once again.
