Action Shots

If you want to capture your horse jumping as in the photo on the right, you will need to make sure you have a lot of light coming into the lens for it to capture the movement. You need good daylight, its doubtful if you are taking a horse jumping you will be close enough to use flash, however a fast shutter speed is important. Try to press the shutter speed just before you think you should as it takes time for the camera to take the picture, especially if it has to focus first. Otherwise you may miss the horse and rider all together!

Burst Capture

Burst capture is a great way of capturing your horse running. If your camera has the facility it will take a number of consecutive photos per second, capturing the movement of your pet just like the four shots below. There were many more shots in this sequence - about 15 in total but this small burst of pictures gives you an idea of what burst capture is capable of capturing. Please bear in mind that on most digital cameras the focus that is set within the initial frame is used throughout the burst capture. Meaning that if your horse is running towards you, your final shots may be blurred as the camera doesn’t reassess focus thought the shots.
