Horse Portraits Commission Information

Portrait: 'Frizbee' with Full Background.
Size & Medium:
2o x 16 Oils on Gallery Wrap Linen Canvas.
Commissioned from:
UK.

Lynne commissioned a painting of her stunning horse Frizbee in 2011 and requested a 20 x 16 oil portrait on linen.Nick has worked closely with Lynne to make sure every part of the portrait is correct from the riders outfit to the positions of the tack and detail on the brushing boots. The owner has been a great help and even went as far as to collect photographs of individual bits of tack and equipment and put them on a webpage together with written notation and explanations. An invaluable resource.

Nick has worked very hard on this painting and he has spent many, many hours at his easel. This wasn't the easiest photo to work from, quite a challenge, but with a combination of Nick studying the photos and website along with the customers help during the different stages, together they have created a painting we are all really happy with.

I hope you enjoy this page of information and if you would like to commission us to paint your pet don't hesitate to email us at any time.

The Horse Portrait in Progress

We try to make sure we take a number of photos of the portrait during the day and display them on our portraits in progress blog for our clients to see. We have daylight easel lamps which allow us to see the painting in pure natural light, and sometimes this lighting effect the photos that we take. This can account for colour differences between each stage and the final scan below.

The Oil Painting with Detail
We scan the majority of our artwork here in the studio, we have an epson scanner, or for the very large paintings we take photographs of the artwork using a Sony DSLR camera, a tripod and two diffused photography lights. Our scans and photographs are always perfect quality if clients require giclee prints of their hand painted portrait for friends or family.

Client Horse Portraits Reference Photos
Our clients email a range of photographs for us to work with, we use one for the main pose of the portrait and others for detail, backgrounds etc The photographs depicted below may vary in colour to the finished painting above. This can be due to the scanned oil painting being slightly different to the original or often clients give us more than one photo to work from i.e. one for the pose and another for colouring.

Client Comments and Feedback
We are always thrilled to read our clients emails, we are in touch with clients via email and sometimes via telephone, skype and texts throughout the entire process. Clients also leave us messages on our portraits in progress blog when they are watching their portrait in progress and also comment on our facebook page too. We try to add snippets of their emails here for you to read, plus you can see more photos of happy clients with the portraits in our client feedback section and on our main pet portraits website feedback section too.

Hi Melanie and Nick

Yes, I've just seen and commented on the blog update. Really exciting. Ian and I have a bottle of champagne ready for that big day. Patience - must wait for 'sticky edges' to dry out! :)

Thanks again for being such amazing artists. I enjoy looking at all of your work. It is always of such a consistently high standard.

But I like my painting best of all (big surprise!)

All best wishes

Hi Melanie and Nick

I've taken a look at the final stages pics and think it is a very skilled and beautiful tribute to the horse who 'stole my heart' forever.
I can't begin to convey the joy that this painting gives me. I LOVE IT! It all looks accurate, and I appreciate that it may look a bit darker than it actually is due to cameras, lighting of the time, etc. Please do a final scan, so everyone can see how beautiful it is.

You will recall that I'd like a giclee print of this painting (when ready) to go to the photographer. THANK-YOU BOTH for being such talented, professional and friendly artists. *Hug for Nick* (for bringing my 'big boy' Frisbee to life).

All best wishes

Hi Melanie & Nick

Frisbee's portrait arrived just after 10am today - safe and sound. Very robust packaging!

I saw, once again, what a very handsome boy my Frisbee was. Nick has captured him beautifully. The prominence of horse and rider and the muted background are absolutely perfect.

In addition, I am very glad that this portrait will be left unframed, as I feel that solid borders would 'imprison' the dynamic movement of the subject. I really do hope that other horsey folk will see Frisbee on your site and think: 'Mm, I'd like an action painting too'.

I have already taken some photos of the portrait in our conservatory - against a pale cream background (the best light on a dull day). Tomorrow, some sunshine is forecast, so will take more photos of the portrait in situ.....
:)

All best wishes

Hi Melanie and Nick

My husband took this photo this morning, as we both enjoyed a champagne toast to our new Frisbee oil portrait.  There was a brief sunny spell, before the skies went grey again, so we grabbed the opportunity of using natural light.

As you can see, I am delighted with this commission, which Nick created for me. It's fine to have photographs of a cherished pet, but oils have an almost magical quality. I really do believe that Frisbee is going to land over that fence and keep on galloping. So yes, this painting is very special indeed.

Many thanks, once again, to you both for being professional artists who really care about their clients. I shall follow your current and future commissions with interest.

All best wishes
Lynne
