Here I have listed some of my frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not covered here don’t hesitate to contact email me at

Do you work from photographs?
Yes, for all of my pet portraits are painted using the client own photographs as reference. This is why the quality of the photos are very important. Make sure that the photos you send are a correct representation of your animal. If your photos don’t really look like your pet…then the portrait wont! I am unable to see your pet in real life, so you have to show me by your photos exactly what he or she looks like.
Are your portraits digital, are they painted using a computer?
No! My paintings are painted in the traditional way. I use an easel, canvas, oil paints and brushes. I use the same materials and techniques artists have been using for hundreds of years.
Do you need to see the animal?
No, I don’t need to see the animal photographs are enough. If you live within a 30 mile radius of me I will gladly meet with you and take photographs if required.
How many photos shall I send?
If you are sending photographs I like to see a variety. I always work from one main photo, and like to have others for reference while I am working -the more the merrier!
Can I choose my favourite photo for you to use?
Yes, I prefer it if you point out your favourite photo of your pet. Why not use ‘Post It’ notes on the backs of the photos to give me more information about the photo - i.e. good character, correct eye colour or fur colouring. This will help me when painting or drawing.
If I have two pets, do I need to photograph them together?
No, it is best to take single photos of each pet, so I can see the detail and then perhaps one or two of them together so I can see the size relationship between the animals, I will use all of the photos as reference for the painting or drawing.
Can I send my photos to you on a CD?
Yes you are more than welcome to send your photos on a cd. If you need any help or advice in this area please don’t hesitate to email for advice.
Will my photos be returned to me?
Yes - All photos will be returned with the portrait.
How long will my portrait take?
The time scale depends on my workload and the medium you have ordered. I am normally working to a 4 - 5 week timetable.
When are you booked up for Christmas?
I am always booked up for Christmas orders by October, and if I do have spaces the latest you can order an oil painting is the start of November. Don’t forget that oil paintings take at least 3 weeks to dry.
Do I pay up front?
Yes, once we have discussed your portrait by either email, letter or telephone and confirmed the total price you can pay the whole amount by credit card or cheque.
What if I am unhappy with my portrait?
The beauty of the work in progress pages and the fact that I email the final scan, is that every client can see their portrait once it is complete. You are able to see if any changes need to be made before the portrait is mailed to you. Of course if you are unhappy when the portrait arrives I offer a no quibble money back guarantee.
How will my portrait arrive?
All portraits are carefully protected in custom designed ‘flatpack’ packaging to avoid damage and despatched by The Royal Mail to your specified delivery address.
